NOT JUST A MODIFIED OLD SLALOM BOARD BUT A PURE DEVELOPED FREE-RACE SHAPE.

Most brands simply re-use old slalom models and reduce the cutouts size and set the straps more inboard. Our development was done together with pure dedicated free-racers and some pro-riders who were amazed by the performance in powered conditions against the pure Slalom boards. The slight longer flat under the straps is the key feature for this shape and makes the board plane earlier and ride more stable and safer in the stronger gusts.

SHAPE DETAILS

Optical aspect & Footpad:

With the new graphic aspect influenced by Italian designer Fabio Canella we are taking a new direction and be more coloured while still keep it simple.

The 4mm thick over-dotted diamond groove grip pad has an extra 6mm soft sponge under-layer which makes it total 10mm and very nice and comfortable.

Shape Info “short”:

The extra length on the flat area under the straps forgives foot pressure mistakes and keeps the board set and blasting in the stable longitudinal direction. The outline is from the Slalom board but extended in the middle the extra length. The bottom shape is similar to the Slalom boards and run a double concaved V with stabilizing side flats running into a flat panel V under the front strap trough the tail.

Shape Info “Detailed”:

Scoop-Rocker:

The slight extra longer flat between the straps makes the board more stable and does not react on foot pressure as quick as a slalom and is therefore more forgiving and keeps it speed more constant.

Volume distribution:

Even foot position for maximum performance and balanced body position. The thickness in the front strap to the nose is reduced for its lightweight while still keeping enough for flotation in non-planning conditions.

Outline:

The outline is identical to the same board width size as the Slalom but is extended in the center to the extra length. The slightly more parallel outline effect into a bit more stability.

Bottom Shape:

The double concaved V with stabilizing side flats from nose to the front strap absorb the chop and gives a comfortable ride. The flat panel V under the straps is releasing the water on the upwind rail when the board is pushed onto the leeward rail and therefore increases acceleration and speed and makes the board manoeuvring controlled trough the jibes.

Rails / Tuck:

The boxy rails in the strap area is comfortable and powerful to push against the fin and drive the board up to top speed and let it fly over the chop. The rails in front of the straps towards the nose are very boxy in comparison to the thickness and let the water flow of the rail low with least friction.

Deck Shape:

A flat deck through the whole board is the stable platform in non-planning conditions and jibes.

Fin boxes:

Short Tuttle box for 100, 110 and the Deep Tuttle Foil box for 120, 130, 140, 150.

Inserts:

Inside and outside strap position on in front and in the back with each 4x holes for individual settings.

CONSTRUCTION

For this board instead of the Biax Carbon used on the Slalom boards the dedicated Freeracer wished for a more impact proof material and the full Carbon/Kevlar is just the right material for lightness and extra strength. On the bottom the decision was clear and the more comfortable ride with the Biax Glass is no doubt the right choice.

f-race 130 The actual curve comes from the Slalom 122 and it is adapted to the extra 5 cm board length.

The overall perfomance is well balanced with a bit of extra trim towards acceleration

f-race 140 The actual curve comes from the Slalom 128 and it is adapted to the extra 5 cm board length. The performance is weighted a bit more towards early planing.

Bottom-Shape

Flat panel V in the tail area for easy rail-to-rail maneuverability and smooth water release for good control, early planing, acceleration and a top speed. The front section has a constant V to have a bit more grip and steady drive trough the jibes. The double concaves and side flats in the same area provide a smoother ride.

Deck-Shape

S-Deck: Lower back foot, higher front foot and lower mast track allow a comfortable sailing position and outstanding control during cross and down wind reaches. A flatter deck across the axle makes the board responsive to foot pressure for easier and more controlled gybes.

Rail-Shape

Nice boxy rails in the tail area for a comfortable foot position in the straps. Boxy rails in the mid section to avoid the water sucking up the deck and to provide flotation throughout and after the gybes. Thin rails in the nose area to reduce weight and gain on reactivity.

Cut-outs

The smaller tail surface reduces drag and helps increase acceleration and top speed. The depth is at 10 mm to increased tail pressure to keep the board riding more flat which helps early planing and control.

Inserts

Exterior position for more leverage power for more performance and more aggressive sailing style to please the ambitious racer. Interior position for more control and handling for riders who love the comfort.

Patrik: “When I tested  those boards with full slalom sails and my competition carbon fins, I was amazed with how much ease I could go fast. Especially in powered up conditions I had so much control, that some PWA riders who tested their slalom equipment had a hard time to be faster then me. One guy could almost not believe that I actually was on a freerace board – hehehe (-:!!”

The PD F - Race 2018 is out now!

For 2018 PD added three new shapes to the F - Race range: 100, 110 and 150 l. These boards are made to be fast and furious and still accessible for non-professional riders.

The whole PD F - Race range is launched with a foil - ready Deep - Tuttle box. That makes these boards also suitable for foiling with small sails in light winds, which will take the fun of windsurfing a little aloft the water.

Model Volume [l] Length [cm] Width [cm]
100 100 238 60
110 110 238 65
120v2 120 237 70
130v2 130 236 75
140v2 140 234 80
150 150 234 85

The Board comes in two different constructions: GET and GBM

GBM is PD's light-weight and high performance construction with lower flex and higher torsion than the GET construction. Deck and bottom sandwich are made from carbon/kevlar material.

GET is a new construction with a biax - fiberglass deck and bottom. The GET version is more affordable and has a higher flex and lower torsion, which makes the board feel less direct.
